After seven year of musical hiatus, music aficionado Paul Play is working to resurrect his once illustrious career. Having released more than four singles since March, the ace RnB star is looking to catch up with the latest trend in the Nigeria music scene. He will be dropping a luxury album. Paul play came in to the Nigeria music scene in 1999, with his hit singles like Mosorire, Happy Day and Yes O!
In 2009 Paul musical career was threaten by a fatal illness during his video shoot in south Africa for his last album an d had to be rushed to a hospital. During this period the media has been speculating over the nature of the illness. It was believed that he had cancer, kidney failure and the possibility of a spiritual attack.
The nature of the ailment is still unknown.
According to Play, his near-death-experience has taught him some vital lessons about life and relationships. He spoke in a low tone saying, “He was taught to be revere God, and not to depend on man because God is the source. He lost many trusted friends during his ailment and gained a few in the process.
“There were some who said and did things that made me say ‘Oh, even you too’, but you know it is part of life that when things are down you lose your friends. Right now, I am not afraid of anything. I am stronger and can take whatever life throws at me.”
The year 2014 hopes to be ‘Paul Play Dairo’s year’, if the indications coming from the soft spoken artiste are anything to go by. For one, he intends to release a Box Set- two albums of highlife and gospel music. The third will be RnB.
My management is considering working with a number of established stars like Inyanya and Wizkid. I am open to work with other artiste, so I don’t end up being an island in the industry. He doesn’t want to streamline himself only to a group or set of people. He wants to take his time to do things right and face other things.
The one-time Globacom Ambassador says that so much has changed since his temporary exit from the scene. Play says, “The music industry has become saturated. Today, everyone wants to sing so there is little space to get the desired publicity. But artistes who have pedigree will always fit in, no matter what friends,” he explains.
Though many artistes of his time have found it rather challenging to fit into the scene after being away for a long time, but Paul Play is optimistic that his fans will embrace his return.
No strong thing!
